Aircraft Spirals Wildly into Palm Trees at Frequented Southern California Coast
A helicopter flying over a crowded coastal shoreline abruptly commenced twirling uncontrollably, finally descending rapidly and smashing into a line of palm trees as spectators watched.
Videos posted on the internet depict the helicopter starting to spin above the shoreline then plunging in the direction of the perimeter of the coast, where it becomes wedged among palms and a set of stairs near the coastal road.
Rescue Operation Information
Emergency responders said five persons were rushed to the hospital involving a pair who were in the aircraft and were “extracted safely from the crash site” after the crash on Saturday.
Three people on the pavement were injured. Details on their injuries were not immediately available.
What led to the incident was still under investigation.
